Bird bones are a common find on archaeological sites, but how much do we really know about the history of birds? A source of eggs, feathers, and meat, birds have also defined our landscapes, been imported as pets, and have been the focus of folklore and belief. From Roman chicken burials to medieval hunting hawks to the seabirds which underpinned eighteenth century life on St Kilda, this session will explore how birds were part of everyday life throughout Britain’s past.
