Design and print a 2 colour one page zine of your very own. Learn about zine culture, about the history of RISO, how the process works and learn how to design for print using analogue methods.

In this workshop you will design and print a one page zine using Thin Ice Presses RISO printer. Learning how to design and make analog colour separations and layers to create multi coloured RISO prints. Each participant will design a one page (sometimes called a hot-dog book amongst other names) with the help of North or Nowt, and print an edition of 10 copies to take away with you.

We'll cover a brief history of zine culture and RISO printing, techniques and approaches to designing for RISO and how to turn your print into a folded 8 page zine of your very own.

£60. No previous experience is necessary and all equipment and materials will be provided. Please arrive five minutes before the scheduled start time.

Saturday 11th July

Get to grips with the basics of letterpress printing in this introductory workshop. In this two-hour session, you will get the chance to set a line of metal type, see what it means to lock up a forme, and try your hand printing with a tabletop Adana press. All materials will be supplied, and you will go home with copies of your own hand-printed postcard.

The workshop will be taught by Phil Treble of Muttons & Nuts.

No previous experience is necessary and all equipment and materials will be provided. Please arrive five minutes before the scheduled start time.

Friday 10th July

During this three-hour workshop, we'll explore traditional Japanese binding techniques. We’ll provide an introduction to the tools of bookbinding, cover grain direction, and practise different types of visible stitching. You'll leave the workshop with your own unique, hand-bound book using washi-style paper and knowledge of the versatility of Japanese bookbinding.

The workshop will be taught by Master Printer, Nick Gill of Effra Press.

No previous experience is necessary and all equipment and materials will be provided. Please arrive five minutes before the scheduled start time.

Live from Thin Ice Press for one day only. Design and print a one-of-a-kind gig poster.

Explore the impressively large collection of wood type at Thin Ice Press and gain a hands-on introduction to letterpress printing. Experiment with split-fountain inking to create a vibrant colour blend, then overprint your design. Whether you're promoting your band, your dream line-up, or simply want to give yourself top billing, you'll leave with a striking poster and knowledge of working with wood type.

The workshop is led by Mike from North or Nowt, who specialises in gigposter and fine art prints.

No previous experience is necessary and all equipment and materials will be provided. There will be a half-hour break for lunch, so please feel free to bring a packed lunch or take a short walk to one of the many sandwich shops near the studio.
