Course Description

This day course will introduce students to the Sagas of Icelanders, some of the world’s finest surviving medieval literature. Together we will read a selection of these stories, ranging from the feats of Grettir the Strong in Iceland to the Greenlandic adventures of Ref the Sly, as well as the escapades of Egil the Warrior-Poet in Viking York. All of the sagas will be read in translation, but there will also be an opportunity to encounter the original Old Norse texts.
