What was Ancient Greek Art?

A non-accredited history of art course

Course Code

CLL 24/25_NA_074
Course Description

Ancient Greek art usually calls to mind famous sculptures such as the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon, but there is a great deal more to it than muscular athletes. How should we read the beautiful ceramics that survived? What has been lost and how does this affect our understanding of what has been preserved? We will explore the different genres of ancient Greek art and discover an entirely different conception of art than the one we are familiar with today.
