Course Description

In the fourteenth century, a house was built for the use of Nostell Priory. In the following century, it became the home of a goldsmith and Alderman of York. Confiscated by the Crown in 1540, it somehow survived - masked by a modern façade - until it was rediscovered and restored to its former glory. This one-day course will explore the ‘life’ of Barley Hall, from its construction to its restoration. It will also discuss the lives of its inhabitants across the centuries.
