McNeil and Prof. Steven Shapiro Join Us at the CAVOL–NAFE Workshop on Actuarial Compensation and Valuation We are pleased to invite you to a two-day workshop jointly organised by the Centre for Actuarial Compensation and Valuation of Life (CAVOL) and the National Association of Forensic Economics (NAFE), to be held at the School for Business and Society, University of York. This international event will bring together leading industry experts, legal professionals, and academics from both sides of the Atlantic to explore critical issues in the field of personal injury and wrongful death compensation. Key topics will include: · The Personal Injury Discount Rate (PIDR) · Periodical Payment Orders (PPOs) · Tariff schemes · The long-term care crisis and compensation · International compensation law and practices A dedicated session will focus on “Third Generation Reduction Factors,” featuring the latest research from the CAVOL–Ogden Working Party collaboration. This includes a presentation of CAVOL’s flagship research and an open discussion on the topic. The programme will include a series of presentations and panel discussions, with speakers representing: · The Government Actuary’s Department · The Ogden Working Party · The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries · NHS Resolution · Insurance and reinsurance firms · Law firms acting for claimants and defendants · US forensic economists and expert witnesses · Academics from a range of disciplines including actuarial science, economics, law, and healthcare Keynote contributions will be delivered by distinguished guest speakers (TBC), providing insights into best practices from the UK, US, and Europe in the calculation and administration of compensation. Catering: Refreshments, pastries, lunch, and an evening dinner will be provided throughout the event. Please note: While the registration is free for University of York Academics, participation in the dinner must still be paid for by all attendees at the dinner.
