Course Description

In 1441, Eleanor Cobham, Duchess of Gloucester was found guilty of heresy and sorcery against King Henry VI, as part of a political plot to discredit her husband, Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester, who was the next in line to the throne. Eleanor was forced to divorce Gloucester, ordered to do public penance, and spent the rest of her life in prison. This day school explores the life of Eleanor Cobham and the political circumstances that led to her being accused of witchcraft.
