Timings | Leaving Campus at 08:00 from York SU Student Centre, Newton Way / Returning to Campus for approximately 17:00.
This trip will be starting off at the historic village of Haworth, home of the Brontë sisters and one of Yorkshire’s most iconic literary destinations. Wander its cobbled streets, visit the Brontë Parsonage Museum, and take in sweeping moorland views, along with plenty of opportunities to enjoy lovely local food and cosy cafés.
In the afternoon, continue to the picturesque market town of Knaresborough. Explore its beautiful riverside setting, see the famous Knaresborough Viaduct, and enjoy more time to relax and take in the scenery along the River Nidd!

A Literary Legend: Walk in the footsteps of the famous Brontë sisters and the setting that inspired them to write their famous works like Jane Eyre, Wurthering Heights, and Shirley. Visit the Brontës' childhood home (tickets for this are not included in the price), visit the church where their father was a clergyman, or bring your books for a wander across the moors.

Walk the Main Street: There are lots of lovely shops and cafes for you to enjoy, many of which draw on their Victorian heritage. Try some old-fashioned treats in Mrs Beighton's Sweet Shop, visit a victorian-style apothecary, or find your next read in one of the many bookshops.

Go for a hike: There are lots of amazing walks in the area. If you are a proficient hiker, you might like to visit Top Withins, which is the inspiration behind Wurthering Heights, and you can stop by the Brontë waterfall on the way.
Make sure to research your hike ahead of time to make sure you have enough time to make it back to the coach on time. Wear sensible shoes and check on weather conditions before setting off.

Take in the historic buildings: Knaresborough have lots of incredible historical places. From Knaresborough Castle to the famous viaduct, there is lots to take in and beautiful views from the castle!

Enjoy the river: There are loads of activities near the River Nidd. Hire a boat, go for a walk along the riverbank, or enjoy an ice cream in the park by the water.
What’s included in your ticket -
This ticket covers round-trip coach travel between the University and Howarth + Knaresborough. The coach will depart from York SU Student Centre, Newton Way at 08:00 and is scheduled to return to campus by 17:00. A staff member will be on-site to check your details before boarding and will provide a reminder of the departure time for the return journey.
IMPORTANT: It is your responsibility to arrive on time for both departures. The coach will leave promptly at the scheduled times and cannot wait for late arrivals. Should you miss the return coach, you will be responsible for arranging and funding your own transport back to York, and no refunds will be issued.
If you require a refund, please contact the International Communities Team at least 7 calendar days before the day of the trip to allow for the refund to be processed.
