Registration for the Sea Level and Coastal Change (SLaCC) conference, University of York, 8th - 10th September 2025
Detailed Description
The Department of Environment and Geography at the University of York will be hosting the QRA’s Sea Level and Coastal Change (SLaCC) research group conference and fieldtrip from 8th - 10th September 2025. The conference will start in the afternoon of Monday 8th September, with talks followed by a conference dinner (pay on the day, not included in the registration fee). Tuesday 9th September will be devoted to talks and a poster session, with lunch and morning/afternoon refreshments provided, before a full-day fieldtrip to Spurn Point on Wednesday 10th September.
We invite abstract submissions via this Google Form (deadline 15th August) on any aspect of coastal and sea-level research including palaeo sea level, coastal geomorphology, blue carbon, extreme waves, contemporary processes and more. Presentations from postgraduate and early career researchers are particularly welcome. The conference will be a supportive and welcoming environment, making it an ideal opportunity for both first-time presenters and more experienced academics and practitioners to share their work and connect with others in the field.
To encourage discussion amongst participants, this is an in-person only conference without a virtual attendance option. The conference will take place in King’s Manor, a few minutes’ walk from the train station and close to a range of accommodation options.
The optional fieldtrip to Spurn Point on Wednesday 10th will focus on coastal geomorphology, Quaternary geology, sea-level rise, and seagrass restoration. The fee includes return transport from York to Spurn National Nature Reserve by minibus and transport around the site by Unimog (a converted military vehicle). The Unimog has a set of stairs to enter and leave the vehicle and participants should also be prepared to walk over unstable and potentially slippery surfaces (sand, intertidal silt). Due to the capacity of the Unimog, this trip can only accommodate a limited number of participants and is therefore first come, first served. If the fieldtrip is fully booked and you’d like to join a waiting list, please email the organisers. This trip will only run if there are sufficient numbers signed up.
