Course Description

The Capital of Andalusia, Seville, was – according to tradition – founded by Hercules. However, it will be medieval Seville which will be regarded as ‘the Capital of the World’ due to its importance, first as capital of the Arab Empire in Al-Andalus, and then as the Kingdom of Castile’s most important city. Seville connected Castile to the New World’s riches. This course will study the city of Seville from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century, through medieval documents and buildings still present in the city.
