Course Description

Eleanor of Aquitaine is often described with superlatives: an exemplary and exceptional individual. As Queen of England, she was at the centre of the Angevin court. As ruler of Aquitaine, she demonstrated intelligence and skill. With Henry II, they became the most powerful political couple of the Middle Ages. This course will study the life of Eleanor of Aquitaine in connection with her multiple roles in Aquitaine, France and England. Moreover, it will explore the historical and religious developments occurring during her long and prolific life.
