Course Description

This course will explore the visual politics of the contemporary refugee and migrant crises in Europe. What are the visual narratives that we have been seeing from the Mediterranean crisis as well as the war in Ukraine? Can art assist in deepening our understanding of the contemporary displacement of populations? By examining both photographic and artistic material, this course will provide a close engagement with these contemporary crises and their visual mediation, while allowing the participants to explore questions around visual ethics.
