Course Description

This course will look at three notorious postwar Nazi fugitives: the Gestapo chief, Klaus Barbie; Otto von Wachter (who had a major role in carrying out the Holocaust); and Adolf Eichmann, famously captured by Israeli commandos and put on trial in Jerusalem. How and why were these figures able to remain free so long? Who organised their escape route, the so-called ‘Ratline’?
