Course Description

Paradoxes, statements in which two contradictory claims about the same thing both appear to be true, have bewitched philosophers since ancient times. This day course will focus on the nature of paradox and on the philosophical issues that paradoxes give rise to. Issues to be addressed include whether paradoxes indicate the limits of the expressible or whether they tell us something deep about reality itself. Developments in ‘paraconsistent logic’ will also be looked at.
