Course Description

This course examines the everyday operations of the Gestapo, the Nazi secret police. How were the Gestapo able to infiltrate so far into private society, policing social, family and even sexual lives? How were they able to isolate Jews so successfully? We will look at the relationship between police, the German people and policy and how this defined and punished ‘criminality’ in the Third Reich.
