The Death of God

A non-accredited Philosophy/Religion course.

Course Code

CLL 22/23_NA_217
Course Description

The notorious pronouncement that ‘God is dead’ can be found in the works of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900). In this one-day course, we look at the origins, content and legacy of that thought: from ancient mythology, through nineteenth century literature and philosophy, to radical post-modern theology. Creative and cataclysmic, the idea of God’s death has had profound implications for art and thought in the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries.
