The Art of the Book in the Islamic World

Course Description

In this short course, we will examine the artistic output of Islamic manuscripts from the rise of Islam to the early twentieth century. We will focus on the important role played by connoisseurs and royal workshops and shed light on the most notable figures among the scribes, painters and illustrators involved in the creation of these precious books.
