Rethinking Violence through Images

Course Description

This course examines the relationship between images and violence in the twentieth and twenty-first century. How can and/or should we represent and view violent events? Who is responsible for such decisions and what is the role of digital culture in this? By the end of the course, students will have learned about important artistic examples of different mediums that engage with violence and will be familiar with key concepts and texts.This course will incorporate lectures and hands-on curatorial and creative exercises that will allow the students to reconsider their everyday role as contemporary viewers.
