Course Description

Pottery is one of the most useful archaeological objects, and it is also one of the most interesting and rewarding to explore. This day session with Finds Specialist and Archaeological Researcher Barry Crump uses hands-on access to genuine archaeological pottery sherds found in the York area, from Roman to Post-Medieval, as well as some replica pots. We will discuss how to identify and interpret pottery, how pot was made, how pots were used and what they meant.
