This course offers an introduction to aesthetics, the philosophy of art. Guided by seminal philosophical texts by Plato, Aristotle, David Hume, and Immanuel Kant, we will examine how philosophers have interpreted the concept of 'beauty' from ancient to modern times. We will explore and discuss questions such as, 'What is beauty?', 'Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?', and 'Can we separate the art from the artist?', along with debates concerning the philosophy of music and the philosophy of architecture.
