Course Description

On 21 May 1471, Henry VI died in the Tower of London, the prisoner of Edward IV, the first Yorkist king. A month later, on 17 June 1471, Isabella of Portugal, dowager Duchess of Burgundy, claimed the throne of England as the last Lancastrian heir of Henry VI. This day school examines the career of Isabella of Portugal, granddaughter of John of Gaunt, her role in the government and court of Burgundy, and why she claimed the throne of England.
