Course Description

What is the nature of reality? Can God’s existence be proven? Do humans have free will? How can we act with virtue? This eight-week course will introduce students to some of the key philosophical problems of the medieval period, including logic, metaphysics, ethics, and politics. We will explore the rich intellectual tradition from Augustine to Aquinas (c. 500-1400 C.E.) to understand how medieval thinkers attempted to grasp the world around them and their place in it.
