A non-accredited earth science course.

Course Code

Course Description

How do we use fossils to reconstruct ancient environments? In this half-day course, palaeontologist Dr Liam Herringshaw will explain the secrets behind the science, from the 19th century pioneers who deduced that Yorkshire was once home to hyaenas, to the 21st century trailblazers interrogating the ocean’s earliest complex ecosystems. This course will be run as two half-day sessions across consecutive weeks. Part one will introduce fossils, techniques, and early examples. Part two will delve into deep-time with a variety of modern case studies, going back as far as the Precambrian. No palaeontological qualification is required, but a familiarity with Earth science would be useful.
