Course Code

Course Description

We are living in a time of mass extinction. Animal and plant species are disappearing at an alarming rate. And many of us fear that human beings might also become extinct. But should we be alarmed, or fearful? What, if anything, is bad about extinction? How bad is it? Is it bad for the species that goes extinct, or for those that are left behind? Would our extinction, as many believe, be especially bad? Or might it, as others believe, be good? Starting with the ideas and arguments of some contemporary philosophers, we’ll explore, and make progress with these questions.
