A non-accredited history of art course

Course Code

Course Description

In this six-week course we will analyse the second and third decades of the twentieth century in Italy. At that time Benito Mussolini, the leader of the fascist party, took power and inaugurated a long campaign of terror. The artists who were influenced by the international Avant-gardes and Italian Futurism, ended up being divided between supporters and opponents of fascism. We will deal with the key figures of Mario Sironi (1885-1961), Giorgio De Chirico (1888-1978), Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964) and others, taking as a starting point the works exhibited at the Museo Del Novecento in Milan.
