Course Description

This course is devoted to aspects of the First World War which are often mentioned in accounts of the conflict but seldom covered in detail. These include political developments (the rise of Labour, women's emancipation, war resistance); social changes (diet, fashion, religious observance); technical advances (espionage, air power, medicine) and the conflict's enduring legacy (Remembrance, the Armenian Genocide). Each of these will be carefully analysed within the overall context of total war.
