Course Description

The great thing about a short story is that it doesn’t have to trawl through someone’s whole life; it can come in glancingly from the side,’ Emma Donoghue. This module aims to introduce writers to specific techniques required to write effective and compelling short stories; for example, dialogue, character, structure, tension. Classical, modern and contemporary texts will be read as models for your own writing. This highly-accessible module is suitable for novices as well as those who have already started to write.
