Course Description

In 1914, Russia was ruled by an autocratic Tsarist regime, soon to be destroyed by the strains of total war. By 1941, after experiencing revolutions, civil war, the triumph of Communism, bitter internal power struggles, and economic crises, the USSR had developed into a repressive one-party state, dominated by Stalin. This course will analyse the key stages in this dramatic turn of events.
