Course Description

From 1154 to 1215, Henry II and his sons ruled England and held territories on the continent. Ambitious and determined men, they were often fighting against one another; nevertheless, under their rule, England witnessed the implementation of Common Law, was part of the twelfth-century Renaissance, went on crusade, and was granted the Magna Carta. How much more would they have achieved had they supported one another? By analysing textual sources, this course will examine Henry and his sons’ achievements and shortcomings.
