Course Description

The Wars of the Roses was fought on English soil for over forty years and resulted in the decimation of many Northern noble families. Starting with Henry IV and his usurpation of Richard II, we will examine whether these civil wars were really the result of denied inheritance, or the escalation of local feuds between the Nevilles and Percies in the North of England. Were Edward IV and Richard III just pawns in a Neville web of power? Was Richard III really our last Northern King?
