Course Description

If you are drawn to the passion for nature, light and colour shown by nineteenth-century and early twentieth century European painters and would like to know more about them this is the course for you. I will introduce you to work of Pre-Raphaelite, Impressionist, Rural Naturalist and Macchiaioli artists, explaining many striking and fascinating examples. Together we will consider the artists’ technical innovations and approaches to representing modern life. You will come to understand relationships between British and continental styles.
