A one day study day aimed at practice and community nurses, district nurses and nurses and allied health professionals working in Accident and Emergency and other urgent care settings.

The day will look at management of feverish illness in children over the age of 1 by a non-specialist with reference to the NICE guidelines.

Course Description

The objective of the day is to prepare clinicians working in primary and urgent care with the essential skills and information to manage feverish illness in children.

The content of the day will include:

  • history taking related to feverish illness in children
  • revision of physical examination of children
  • discussion of common presentations of feverish illness in children seen in primary and urgent care
  • identification of 'red flags' which require referral.

At the end of the day you will have the ability to:

  • take a focused history of a child presenting with feverish illness
  • adapt physical examination skills to the examination of young children
  • diagnose and treat commonly presenting feverish illnesses
  • identify 'red flags' in chidren over 1 year of age which require referral to medical or specialist practitioners.

Funded places are available to employees of NHS trusts and primary care staff within Yorkshire and the Humber. We therefore do not charge when you book your place, but will contact you should you not meet the required criteria for a funded place. Non funded places are charged at £100.00, payable in advance.
