Course Description

Course overview

This course provides an introduction to the principles of item response theory, with a focus on ‘fundamental measurement’ and the Rasch model. Theory principles are demonstrated via practical exercises and use of the software package Ministep (demonstration version of Winsteps).

Course content
The course content will include:

  • overview of IRT for binary data
  • the Rasch model
  • introduction to Winsteps software
  • Rasch modelling with dichotomous and polytomous responses
  • differential item functioning
  • test equating.

Attendees may obtain a free copy of the demo version of Winsteps (Ministep) via www.winsteps.com/ministep.htm or purchase a full copy of Winsteps prior to the course if they wish.

The cost is £450 for external attendees and £300 for University of York staff or students. The course fee includes lunch and refreshments throughout the day, as well as a course dinner. Software and access to a PC will be provided.
