Course Description

Women artists have worked in a range of media from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century. Together, we will explore a wide range of fascinating artists and artworks including examples from Renaissance Italy, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Britain and France and across Europe and America in the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries. We will explore why women artists have been little celebrated and consider women’s marginalisation, their training and exhibiting opportunities and social issues that shaped their lives.
