Course Description

Few periods have produced such a rich and complex array of poetry as the United States in the last century. From the eclectic modernism of Marianne Moore, Wallace Stevens and William Carlos Williams, through the various postmodernisms of Frank O’Hara, Charles Olson and Allen Ginsberg, and on to the work of contemporaries like Sharon Olds and Claudia Rankine, twentieth-century American poetry embraced a bewildering, exciting, rate of change and innovation that this course will attempt to provide a roadmap through.
