Course Description

This module will study the history, artistry, skills, and iconographic meanings of York’s stained glass heritage. It will explore the materials and techniques used in glass making since the Middle Ages to Victorian times. Practices, including cartoon drawing, vidimus designing and glass-making, will be studied. The module will be illustrated throughout by examples from ecclesiastical and secular glass in the city of York. It is anticipated that the module will include visits to two York parish churches to observe the glass in situ.
