Course Description

There may not be outcrops of rock to inspect in York, but the city’s origins and development are decidedly geological. From erratics and moraines deposited in the last Ice Age to the development of the concept of geological time, York can lay claim to more geological history than you might think. In this course, we will explore and explain the rocky roots of York and (if conditions permit) lead a closer inspection of some of the most interesting geological materials you can find around town. This course will be held at the King’s Manor and will involve some walking.
