Course Description

One of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Federico Fellini (1920-93) represents the crème de la crème of Italian cinema. In films such as La Strada (1954), (1963) and Amarcord (1973) - all of which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film - he blended baroque imagery with earthy humour to startling effect. Fellini is famous for chronicling the dissolute lives of the rich and famous, but he was also interested in the lives of ordinary people struggling to survive in post-war Italy. In this four-week course, we will watch four of his most critically admired films and explore how his career developed over the years.
