Course Description

Explore Pre-Raphaelitism from the foundation of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood proper in 1848 until the disbandment of the Brotherhood in the mid-1850s, then follow its development throughout the remainder of the nineteenth century. This course will include the famous and popular art of better-known Pre-Raphaelites - Dante Gabriel Rossetti, John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt - and fascinating lesser-known artists associated with the movement. Through encounters with images of artworks you will develop an ability to recognise and understand Pre-Raphaelite artworks.
