Course Description

In this module you will acquire a broad overview of medieval England, addressing a set of major historical topics. We will move from the Norman Conquest to the War of the Roses, examining the changes in church and state. Topics will include castles and lordship, the coming of Gothic architecture to England, and the rise of the universities. You will be introduced to a variety of social, economic, cultural and political approaches to history. Throughout this module we will also utilise the rich documentary and physical evidence left behind of medieval York and its surroundings.
