Course Description

The Rebellion of the Northern Earls of Westmoreland and Northumberland in 1569 was the most serious rebellion of Elizabeth’s reign and resulted in the devastation of many northern families. The punishments imposed by Elizabeth including fines and confiscation of estates were the harshest of any Tudor monarch in the aftermath of a rebellion and ensured that the north could not rise again for many a generation. This course examines the role that Mary Queen of Scots played, as a focal point for rebellion. It is anticipated that this course will be held at the King’s Manor.
