Course Description

At the Synod of Whitby in 664AD, the Christian Church of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Northumbria decided to follow the liturgical practices of Rome rather than those practised by the Celtic Church of Iona. Today many churches are returning to Celtic liturgy for their worship. What makes Celtic liturgy so distinctive? What draws people to it? Tracing the origins of the Celtic Church on Iona and Lindisfarne and exploring Celtic theology, this course will try to answer these questions.
