Course Description

In April 2017, York was declared the UK’s first Human Rights City. What does this mean? What are human rights? Does the international human rights system make the world a safer, fairer and better place? This course offers an introduction to the field of human rights, looking at some key rights and how they work (or don’t) in a global and local context. It will address the questions above and include discussions on women, children and minority group rights, the use of torture, and the protection of refugees.
