Course Description

When the First Crusade was proclaimed in 1095, from all corners of Europe thousands of Christians marched to the Holy Land to recover Jerusalem. Six major Crusades were fought against Muslims in the east, and they ultimately ended in Christian failure. By analysing contemporary chronicles and modern studies, this course will explore the political causes and effects of these wars, focusing on medieval warfare logistics, strategy, and tactics.
