Course Description

Six hundred years ago, an obscure German monk initiated an academic debate by nailing 95 Theses to the door of the University Church in Wittenberg. In so doing, he destroyed the age-old unity of Christian Europe, sparked bitter religious wars and laid the foundations of our modern world. Was his criticism of the Catholic Church justified? Why did so many people and princes support him and in what ways did his ‘Reformation’ transform European society, church and state?
