Course Description

The English Civil Wars were one of the nastiest wars fought on our soil and York was the Northern prize. This course explores the pivotal role Yorkshire played in these wars and the impact on local families. How did local families decide which side to fight on? Where did people get their arms and armour from? What was the strategic importance of York, and what happened at the Battle of Marston Moor? Yorkshire and the North were significantly changed by the English Civil Wars: we will examine those changes.
