Course Description

The discovery plot - in four stages from onset to confrontation - defines the horror genre. But discovery is equally, if not more, important to mysteries and it is no coincidence that Edgar Allan Poe is a seminal figure in both categories. In this series of workshops we will apply Poe’s techniques to the writing of short suspense and speculative fiction, using guidelines from the work of two of his most influential successors, Arthur Conan Doyle and HP Lovecraft.
