Course Description

In this course, we will read a variety of contemporary short fiction and essays, aiming to collect a variety of modern voices: from classics like Margaret Atwood and Nobel Laureate Alice Munroe to new talent Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and the more obscure, like Japanese essayist Yoko Tawada. Their stories and essays address questions such as identity, society and (not) belonging, as well as social issues like the destruction of nature, power-hungry corporations and governments, and issues of race and class.
