Course Description

Built in 1900s by Robert Hawthorn Kitson and inhabited for nearly 60 years by his niece Daphne Phelps, the Italianate villa commends spectacular views of Taormina and Mount Etna. Its unique interiors are filled with many works of art, the most spectacular being the dining room furnished and decorated by Sir Frank Brangwyn. We will recount the history of the house and gardens, its owners and their guests, also using Daphne’s first-hand account, A House in Sicily, first published in 1999 (recommended reading).
