This day session provides an accessible introduction to identifying, reading, and interpreting Roman coins, with hands-on access to genuine examples. We will discuss the spread of coin-use in the Roman period and the role, use and meaning of these coins. We will also consider some of the issues facing numismatics within archaeology, as well as new ways to interpret and understand the coinage of Roman Britain.
